Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles were torn apart by Sudan in a 4-0 thrashing that ended their African Nations Championship campaign in brutal fashion.
The team started brightly and even celebrated a disallowed goal by Anthony Ijoma in the 22nd minute — chalked off for offside after a VAR check.
Minutes later, defender Leonard Ngenge accidentally headed the ball into his own net while trying to clear a Sudanese shot. Things went from bad to worse when Ngenge conceded a penalty before half-time, converted by Walieldin Khdir.
The second half was a one-way assault as Abdel Yagoub scored twice — in the 55th and 62nd minutes — to leave Nigeria bottom of the group. Their last game against Congo is now meaningless.
