The Federal Government has stepped in to end two high-profile aviation controversies — freeing Ibom Air passenger Ms. Comfort Emmanson from jail and cutting Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal’s (KWAM 1) flight ban to just one month.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, made the announcement on Wednesday after consulting with top industry stakeholders.
Ms. Emmanson had been serving time in Kirikiri Prison over an August 10 altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight. Keyamo said she showed “genuine remorse” in a police statement witnessed by her lawyer. With Ibom Air formally withdrawing its complaint, he ordered the Airport Command’s Commissioner of Police to secure her release this week.
The minister also confirmed that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) would drop the lifetime flight ban imposed on her, with more details expected soon.
