More than 100 terrorists have been neutralised in a major military operation in Makakkari Forest, Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The coordinated action, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, combined heavy airstrikes with a ground assault, destroying motorcycles and dismantling the bandits’ stronghold.
Intelligence gathered over several weeks had tracked unusual movements across the Sunke, Kirsa, and Barukushe axis—areas notorious for harbouring criminal gangs. Reports indicated that over 400 armed fighters, led by some of the region’s most feared kingpins, were converging on the forest to launch an attack on nearby farming communities.
The operation began with Air Force jets delivering precision strikes on identified clusters of terrorists, followed by advancing ground troops who intercepted fleeing fighters. Many of the gang leaders and their foot soldiers were eliminated before they could retaliate.
In the aftermath, residents of Adafka village were seen protesting, blocking security vehicles from leaving, and carrying green leaves as a sign of distress. The villagers, fearing renewed attacks, had packed belongings into security pickups, ready to abandon their homes.
