Crystal Palace have lost their appeal against demotion from the Europa League and will instead compete in the Europa Conference League this season. The decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport cements Nottingham Forest’s promotion into the Europa League, filling the spot vacated by Palace.
Palace earned Europa League qualification by winning last season’s FA Cup but were sanctioned by UEFA for breaching multi-club ownership regulations. The club’s part-owner, American businessman John Textor, also holds a majority stake in French side Lyon, who have qualified for the same competition.
The Eagles lodged an appeal in July against UEFA’s ruling, naming both Lyon and Nottingham Forest in the case. With the CAS verdict now final, the reshuffled line-up for European competitions will proceed as confirmed.
